Behind the Scenes

Deb spent 20 years teaching middle school science and math at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Medford, Oregon, where she raised her two daughters.  While teaching, she also headed up a number of special projects at the school, including a Haunted House, 7th grade Outdoor School, Science Fair, assistant director and scenic painter of the middle school play, After School Science Club, and Middle School Chair.  Outside of Sacred Heart, Deb taught two evenings a week at Rogue Community College, and spent her summers as the treasurer of the Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts.

Deb loves the arts, and dabbles in anything that catches her fancy at the time. She has hosted paint-n-sips, become an avid Bob Ross painter, makes most of her own jewelry, and plays the piano badly.  Deb also loves gardening and relaxing in the yard.  In her spare time, she makes videos for math students on her YouTube channel.

Deb is married to Jake Dewar, a wildlife biologist who subcontracts for the BLM and ODF.  Jake spends six months each year surveying wildlife in the mountains surrounding the Salem area.  Together they have two daughters, currently in their twenties, who live in Seattle and New York City.  Both daughters are in the performing arts, born from middle school plays and summer theater.
